"I need you to take these files to Mikhail at the flame station." Ben Linus said to the young woman sitting across from him in his study. "Of course, Ben." Athena Alexandrou answered. "What do you want me to tell him?" Athena had lived on the island her whole life and was completely loyal to Ben and his plans.
"Just let him know that I need more information on the plane crash survivors. Jack Shepard, Kate Austen, James Ford, and John Locke especially." Athena nodded. "I'll see what I can find out." Ben smiled. "Good. I look forward to reading the reports." Athena stood and taking the files Ben indicated left the study. He watched her go with undisguised interest, his eyes going to her firm butt and long, muscular legs.
A short time later Athena was walking through the jungle on the way to carry out her orders. Under normal circumstances she would have had a few things to say to Ben about being treated like his errand girl. These weren't normal circumstances though. Athena would never turn down a chance to go to the Flame.
She was loathe to admit it, but secretly she was very attracted to their mysterious Ukranian communications officer. (Athena actually had told Greta and Bonnie about her feelings and they had laughed at her. Was it that unusual to find someone attractive that others might not consider traditionally handsome? She hoped not.) Sighing and brushing a strand of damp hair out of her face Athena picked her way over the branches and vines that covered the path she was on. The heat seemed unusually oppressive and the air was thick and heavy. From the humidity and the look of the sky she guessed a storm was coming.
To put her mind off how hot and sticky she was, Athena thought back to the time several years before when Mikhail had taught her and several others how to shoot a rifle. She blushed remembering him standing close behind, positioning her and the feel of his hands over hers as he showed her the correct way to hold the gun. Once she had gotten the hang of it Athena had found she was a pretty good shot. Mikhail had told her she was a natural and had promised to take her to a place he knew for more target practice. Unfortunately, Ben assigned him to the Flame station soon after and the practice never happened.
Athena was dragged from her thoughts by a sound coming from deep in the jungle. Something was coming. Something she didn't want to meet. The mechanical noise intensified and she began to run. Thinking only about getting away, Athena forgot about the thick vines blocking her path. "Nooo..." she screamed as her foot caught in one of the thick coils and she was slammed to the ground. She looked up at the trees and saw that they had abruptly stopped shaking. The sound seemed to have ceased as well. "That was close." Athena thought. She slowly sat up and removed the vine that was twisted around her ankle, wincing slightly as she did so. Her knees and legs were scraped and her ankle hurt but she wasn't badly injured. Thankful for that she shakily got to her feet and started towards the Flame again.
A few minutes later Athena approached the clearing leading to the house that concealed the Flame station. The jungle was quiet and still. Limping slightly, she made her way to the small yard. There was a rustling sound at her left and she jumped slightly. It was just Mikhail's holstein Anastasia. Athena laughed softly to break the tension of the moment. The cow raised it's head and looked at her with big, mild eyes then returned to the grass it was munching.
Athena stepped into the yard and removed the walkie-talkie from her belt. She thumbed the on switch and spoke "Mikhail? Are you there?" There was only static in response. As usual he probably had his radio turned off. Sighing she tucked her radio away and turned to the house. "Mikhail, please don't shoot." she called out. "It's Athena. Ben sent me." She backed away a bit all the while keeping a wary eye on the house. Mikhail was known to shoot first and ask questions later. "Come in then." A voice replied. Athena slowly walked up to the house.
